Requirements for requesting TSE

To apply for the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be affiliated with or a beneficiary of the public health system in Spain (worker, pensioner, unemployed, or dependent family member).
  • Have a valid DNI or NIE and be registered as a resident in Spanish territory.
  • Not be covered by another European health system (if you reside permanently outside Spain).
  • The card is only granted for temporary stays in countries of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.
  • It can be applied for at any time, although it is recommended to do so at least 15 days in advance of the travel date.
