Application for Documentation and Prior Appointment for First ID Card or Passport
To apply for a first DNI (Spanish National Identity Document) for a baby or minor, the following conditions must be met:
👶 The baby must be registered in the Civil Registry and have a literal birth certificate issued for DNI purposes.
🏠 Be registered at the family home, with a recent certificate of registration (maximum 3 months old).
👩👩👧 The minor must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians, who must present their valid DNI.
📸 Present a recent color photograph of the baby with a white background.
💶 Pay the current official fee (currently approximately €12), except in cases of large families, where it is free of charge.
⏱️ Request an appointment in advance with the National Police, preferably in the minor's province of residence.

In Spain, you can apply for a DNI for a baby whenever you wish, there is no mandatory minimum age. The first DNI can be issued from the moment of birth.
The baby's ID card must be renewed every two years until the child reaches five years of age. After five years of age, it will be renewed every five years.
