Requirements for applying for the Minimum Living Income (IMV) or Child Support Complement (CAPI)
To apply for the Child Rearing Assistance Supplement, the following conditions must be met:
- Having children under 18 years old or older dependents with disabilities.
- Being a recipient of the Minimum Living Income (IMV) or meeting the established income limits.

Residing legally in Spain and having done so continuously for at least 1 year prior to the application.
- Being registered at the habitual address along with the beneficiary minors.
- Having all documentation up-to-date (DNI/NIE, family book, certificate of cohabitation, etc.).
- The application can be submitted at any time of the year, provided that the cohabitation and income requirements are met.

FAQs about the Child Benefit top-up
It is a monthly financial aid granted for each minor member of the cohabitation unit, with the aim of reducing child poverty.
Cohabitation units that:
- Include minors among their members.
- Meet the requirements of the IMV or those established regarding income limits, net worth, and specific asset tests for the supplement.
Income must be below 300% of the guaranteed income thresholds established for the type of household unit. Net worth must be below 150% of the asset limits set for the type of household unit.
You must submit an IMV application through the channels established by the National Social Security Institute (INSS), as the IMV application form also serves for the supplement.
Starting in 2024, the monthly amounts are:
- Children under 3 years old: 115 euros.
- Children between 3 and 6 years old: 80.50 euros.
- Children between 6 and 18 years old: 57.50 euros.
No. If you are already a recipient of the IMV and have dependent children, the supplement will be automatically recognized. If you do not receive the IMV, you can apply for the supplement by submitting an IMV application, as the form serves for both benefits.
