Madrid Aid 2026

Birth Aid in the Community of Madrid: A Complete Guide 2026

You've had a baby in Madrid, and surely someone has told you that "there's aid available." But what exactly? How much is it? Do you have to apply for it, or does it come automatically? Here, we tell you everything: aid from the Community, from the City Council, and tax deductions that very few people claim. No fine print.

💰
How much money can this represent? Between regional, municipal aid, and tax deductions, a family in Madrid can receive more than €14,000 for the birth of their baby. But you have to apply for it: it doesn't come automatically.

Madrid is, along with the Basque Country, one of the autonomous communities with the most extensive birth aid package in Spain. The problem is that many families don't know they exist, or they apply too late because they are unaware of the deadlines.

In this guide, we explain each aid clearly: what it is, who it is for, how much money it represents, and how to apply for it. And at the end, we tell you how we can take care of managing everything for you so you don't have to worry about a thing.

Birth Aid in Madrid: A Quick Map

There are three main blocks of aid for families with babies in the Community of Madrid. They are independent of each other and in many cases compatible and cumulative:

🏛️

Regional Aid (Community of Madrid)

€500/month from the 21st week of pregnancy until the baby turns 2 years old. Only for mothers under 30 with certain income requirements.

🏙️

Municipal Aid (Madrid City Council)

One-time payment of €500, €750, or €1,000 depending on the number of children. No income limit. For families registered in Madrid capital.

📋

Regional IRPF Deduction

€721.70 per child in the income tax return, during the year of birth and the following two years. With income limits.

🇪🇸

Cumulative National Aid

100% maternity/paternity leave, €1,200/year deduction for working mothers or €100/month in advance, and more.

💡 Babybelegal Tip

These aids are not mutually exclusive. A 28-year-old mother living in Madrid capital could access all three Madrid aids at the same time, in addition to national ones. That's why it's worth getting a personalized aid study before ruling out any options.

Regional Aid: €500/month for Mothers Under 30

Since January 2022, the Community of Madrid pays €500 per month to young mothers who meet the requirements. In total, it can amount to up to €14,500 per child: from the 21st week of pregnancy until the baby turns 24 months old.

Who can apply?

  • Women in their 21st week or more of pregnancy, or who have already given birth to a baby up to 24 months old
  • Be 30 years old or younger at the time of application
  • Legal residency in Spain
  • Be registered in the Community of Madrid for at least 5 of the last 10 years (any municipality in the Community counts)
  • Annual income below €30,000 for individual taxation or €36,200 for joint taxation

How much money is it in total?

When does it start Until when Monthly amount Maximum total
21st week of pregnancy Until the baby turns 2 years old €500/month Up to €14,500
Multiple birth (twins or more) Until the babies turn 2 years old €1,800/month per child Significantly higher
You can apply while pregnant You don't have to wait for the baby to be born. If you are 21 weeks pregnant or more, you can submit the application and start collecting before delivery. The sooner you apply, the sooner the money starts accumulating.

How to apply?

The application is processed through the Electronic Headquarters of the Community of Madrid (procedure A76), with a digital certificate or cl@ve. The call is permanently open throughout the year.

Main documentation you will need: historical registration certificate, documentation proving pregnancy or birth, and if you do not authorize consultation, the last income tax return.

Madrid City Council Aid: One-time Payment Without Income Limit

The Madrid City Council has its own birth aid program, independent of the Community's. This one is especially interesting because it does not require an income limit and can be requested by families of any age and income level.

Amounts according to the number of children

Number of children Amount (one-time payment) Registration requirement
First child €500 5 uninterrupted years in Madrid capital before birth
Second child €750
Third child or more €1,000
🚨
Attention to the deadline! You have 2 months from birth to apply for this City Council aid. If you miss the deadline, you lose it. The current call covers births between June 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026.

Who can apply?

  • Parents of babies born or adopted from June 1, 2025
  • Registered in the municipality of Madrid for the last 5 uninterrupted years before birth
  • Spanish nationality or legal residency in Spain
  • No age or family income limit — any family can apply

How to apply?

It can be applied for electronically through the Electronic Headquarters of the Madrid City Council or in person at the registry offices. Only one of the parents (the one registered with the baby) can submit the application.

Regional IRPF Deduction: €721.70 per Child in Income Tax

This is the aid that most families fail to claim, simply because it doesn't automatically appear in the draft income tax return. If you've had a baby in Madrid from 2023 onwards, you can deduct €721.70 per child in your income tax return, during the year of birth and the following two years.

How does it work exactly?

1

Year of birth

Deduction of €721.70 in the regional IRPF quota. In multiple births, it increases by an additional €721.70 for each child from the first year.

2

First subsequent year

Same deduction of €721.70 if you continue to meet the income and cohabitation requirements with the minor.

3

Second subsequent year

Third and final application of the deduction. In total: up to €2,165.10 over three years for each child born or adopted.

Requirements to apply it

  • Reside in the Community of Madrid
  • Live with the born/adopted child
  • Individual taxable income below €30,930 or joint taxable income below €37,322.20
  • The sum of the taxable incomes of the entire family unit must not exceed €61,860
🔍
Did you know that this deduction doesn't always appear in the draft? The Tax Agency doesn't apply it automatically. You have to check it yourself or have someone experienced review it for you. In many cases, families file their tax returns without claiming it and lose more than €700 per year.

National Aids You Can Also Combine

In addition to all of the above, as a family in Madrid, you also have access to national aids that apply throughout Spain. These are the most important ones:

Aid Who it's for How much
Maternity leave Mother who has contributed 19 weeks at 100% of salary
Paternity leave Other parent who has contributed 19 weeks at 100% of salary
Working mother aid Mother who works and contributes to Social Security €1,200/year in income tax or €100/month for 3 years
Baby registration with Social Security All babies (not automatic) Medical coverage from day one
IMV / CAPI Low-income families Variable depending on the situation
The working mother aid has two options — and many families only know one If the mother works and contributes to Social Security, she can choose between deducting €1,200 per year in her income tax return for 3 years, or receiving €100/month in advance for 3 years. Both options are valid, and it's necessary to study which one is more suitable depending on each situation.

Summary: How Much Money Can You Receive in Total?

Taking a specific example: a 27-year-old mother, resident in Madrid capital, who works and has her first baby in 2026, could access:

Up to €12,000 from the Community of Madrid€500/month from pregnancy until the baby is 2 years old (if age and income requirements are met)
€500 from the Madrid City CouncilOne-time payment for the first child, no income limit
Up to €2,165 in regional IRPF deduction€721.70 per year in income tax, for 3 years
Up to €3,600 in working mother aid€100/month for 3 years (or €1,200/year in income tax), if she works and contributes to Social Security
19 weeks of maternity leave at 100% of salaryThe first 6 are mandatory and immediate. The remaining 13 can be fractional.
💡
Not all aids come automatically Neither the baby's Social Security registration, nor the working mother aid, nor the IRPF deduction are processed automatically. They must be applied for, and in some cases, there are very specific deadlines that cannot be missed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Birth Aid in Madrid

Can I apply for the €500/month Community aid if I am over 30?+
No. The monthly aid of €500 from the Community of Madrid is exclusively for mothers aged 30 or younger at the time of application. If you are over 30, you cannot access this specific program. However, you can apply for the City Council aid (no age limit) and national aids. If you want to know exactly what aids you are entitled to, at Babybelegal, we carry out a personalized aid study for your specific situation.
Is the City Council aid compatible with the Community of Madrid aid?+
Yes, they are fully compatible. These are two different programs managed by different administrations. If you meet the requirements for both (age for the regional, registration in Madrid capital for the municipal), you can receive both at the same time. They are also compatible with national aids and the regional IRPF deduction.
What if the baby is not registered with Social Security? Does it affect the aid?+
Registering the baby with Social Security is not automatic: it must be explicitly requested. If you don't, the baby will not have medical coverage as a beneficiary from day one. Although it does not directly affect the economic aid mentioned, it is an essential procedure that you should not forget. In addition, registering the baby may be necessary to access some municipal aid.
Can I claim the €721.70 deduction if it does not appear in my tax draft?+
Yes. This regional deduction does not always appear pre-filled in the Tax Agency draft. You have to review it and add it manually in the regional deductions section of the Community of Madrid if you meet the requirements. If you are not sure how to do it or if it applies to you, our birth procedures advisory service can help you review your tax situation.
Can I apply for this aid even if I am self-employed?+
Yes. Both the regional aid of €500/month and the municipal aid from the City Council are accessible to self-employed individuals, provided they meet the requirements for registration, age, and income. As for maternity leave, self-employed women are also entitled to 19 weeks at 100% of their contribution base, although the application process is different from that for employed workers. If you are self-employed, we recommend our specific advisory service for the self-employed to ensure you don't miss anything.
