Birth Aid in the Community of Madrid: A Complete Guide 2026
You've had a baby in Madrid, and surely someone has told you that "there's aid available." But what exactly? How much is it? Do you have to apply for it, or does it come automatically? Here, we tell you everything: aid from the Community, from the City Council, and tax deductions that very few people claim. No fine print.
Madrid is, along with the Basque Country, one of the autonomous communities with the most extensive birth aid package in Spain. The problem is that many families don't know they exist, or they apply too late because they are unaware of the deadlines.
In this guide, we explain each aid clearly: what it is, who it is for, how much money it represents, and how to apply for it. And at the end, we tell you how we can take care of managing everything for you so you don't have to worry about a thing.
Birth Aid in Madrid: A Quick Map
There are three main blocks of aid for families with babies in the Community of Madrid. They are independent of each other and in many cases compatible and cumulative:
Regional Aid (Community of Madrid)
€500/month from the 21st week of pregnancy until the baby turns 2 years old. Only for mothers under 30 with certain income requirements.
Municipal Aid (Madrid City Council)
One-time payment of €500, €750, or €1,000 depending on the number of children. No income limit. For families registered in Madrid capital.
Regional IRPF Deduction
€721.70 per child in the income tax return, during the year of birth and the following two years. With income limits.
Cumulative National Aid
100% maternity/paternity leave, €1,200/year deduction for working mothers or €100/month in advance, and more.
These aids are not mutually exclusive. A 28-year-old mother living in Madrid capital could access all three Madrid aids at the same time, in addition to national ones. That's why it's worth getting a personalized aid study before ruling out any options.
Regional Aid: €500/month for Mothers Under 30
Since January 2022, the Community of Madrid pays €500 per month to young mothers who meet the requirements. In total, it can amount to up to €14,500 per child: from the 21st week of pregnancy until the baby turns 24 months old.
Who can apply?
- Women in their 21st week or more of pregnancy, or who have already given birth to a baby up to 24 months old
- Be 30 years old or younger at the time of application
- Legal residency in Spain
- Be registered in the Community of Madrid for at least 5 of the last 10 years (any municipality in the Community counts)
- Annual income below €30,000 for individual taxation or €36,200 for joint taxation
How much money is it in total?
| When does it start | Until when | Monthly amount | Maximum total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 21st week of pregnancy | Until the baby turns 2 years old | €500/month | Up to €14,500 |
| Multiple birth (twins or more) | Until the babies turn 2 years old | €1,800/month per child | Significantly higher |
How to apply?
The application is processed through the Electronic Headquarters of the Community of Madrid (procedure A76), with a digital certificate or cl@ve. The call is permanently open throughout the year.
Main documentation you will need: historical registration certificate, documentation proving pregnancy or birth, and if you do not authorize consultation, the last income tax return.
Madrid City Council Aid: One-time Payment Without Income Limit
The Madrid City Council has its own birth aid program, independent of the Community's. This one is especially interesting because it does not require an income limit and can be requested by families of any age and income level.
Amounts according to the number of children
| Number of children | Amount (one-time payment) | Registration requirement |
|---|---|---|
| First child | €500 | 5 uninterrupted years in Madrid capital before birth |
| Second child | €750 | |
| Third child or more | €1,000 |
Who can apply?
- Parents of babies born or adopted from June 1, 2025
- Registered in the municipality of Madrid for the last 5 uninterrupted years before birth
- Spanish nationality or legal residency in Spain

How to apply?
It can be applied for electronically through the Electronic Headquarters of the Madrid City Council or in person at the registry offices. Only one of the parents (the one registered with the baby) can submit the application.
Regional IRPF Deduction: €721.70 per Child in Income Tax
This is the aid that most families fail to claim, simply because it doesn't automatically appear in the draft income tax return. If you've had a baby in Madrid from 2023 onwards, you can deduct €721.70 per child in your income tax return, during the year of birth and the following two years.
How does it work exactly?
Year of birth
Deduction of €721.70 in the regional IRPF quota. In multiple births, it increases by an additional €721.70 for each child from the first year.
First subsequent year
Same deduction of €721.70 if you continue to meet the income and cohabitation requirements with the minor.
Second subsequent year
Third and final application of the deduction. In total: up to €2,165.10 over three years for each child born or adopted.
Requirements to apply it
- Reside in the Community of Madrid
- Live with the born/adopted child
- Individual taxable income below €30,930 or joint taxable income below €37,322.20
- The sum of the taxable incomes of the entire family unit must not exceed €61,860
National Aids You Can Also Combine
In addition to all of the above, as a family in Madrid, you also have access to national aids that apply throughout Spain. These are the most important ones:
| Aid | Who it's for | How much |
