Requirements to apply for TSE
To apply for the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), you must meet the following requirements:
- Being affiliated with or a beneficiary of the public health system in Spain (worker, pensioner, unemployed or dependent family member).
- Have a valid DNI or NIE and be registered in Spanish territory .
- Not being covered by another European health system (if you reside permanently outside of Spain).
- The card is only granted for temporary stays in countries of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
- It can be requested at any time , although it is recommended to do so at least 15 days in advance of the travel date.
